Painting is my absolute favorite thing in the world! I am so grateful and happy that I get a chance to do this for a living. It also makes me smile to receive so many interesting questions, here is a list of answers to FAQ:
Did you go to school for design?
Yes, I spent a long 6 years at University (UDLA Puebla) studying Information Design and Fine Arts. I graduated in 2008 but have not stopped learning since! I've enrolled in many artistic workshops since then, including printmaking, linocuts, lithography and currently pottery.
What kind of paint do you use?
I don't use one specific brand of paint, my palette is a chaotic mix of tones and color! I strongly encourage every artist to experiment with different consistencies and material until you find what works for you! What works for me is: Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolor Pans Set, Dr. Ph. Martins radiant concentrated watercolors, Sennelier French Artists' Watercolor Sets and a variety of black and white India Inks.
What kind of paper do you use?
Once again, I strongly encourage personal experimentation with supplies. Every artist has different needs. Personally, my favorite kind of paper is hot pressed watercolor paper, at least 140gr. I usually work on 9x12'' watercolor pads. Many watercolor painters prefer cold pressed because of the texture, but I prefer a more satined finish. A great brand is Arches, although pricier than the rest... some other great options are Canson, Winsor & Newton, Strathmore and Fabriano.
Where do you buy your supplies?
While I know many of you are reading me from Mexico, I rarely buy supplies in Mexico. I take trips to the US and buy all my supplies at Blick or or similar stores. Ordering paints online is not an option because customs doesn't allow liquids to cross the border. If you are in the US, Blick's website is GREAT!
Why is everything in English?
Once again, I know many of you live in Mexico like me! The reason my art and website are in english is because it is my first language, the language my mother spoke to me in since I was a baby and the language I think in!
Y claro que sí hablamos Español! Nos pueden escribir con cualquier duda y la contestamos con gusto :)
Do you do custom or commissioned paintings?
While I am incredibly grateful and honoured by commission work requests, it is not a service I can currently offer. I am incredibly lucky to be super busy with my own paintings and licensing my art! .
I have seen your work on greeting cards, books and journals at large retail stores, do you sell these items on your shop?
The items you see at big stores with my artwork on them are images I license to several manufactures. They all make amazing and beautiful products! While they are not available on my shop, you can find them at manufacturer's websites and stores like Paper Source, Papyrus, Barnes and Noble, Amazon, Gift Shops, etc.
Do you teach workshops? If so, when and where?
I rarely teach workshops, but it does happen! I have no fixed schedule with classes, but I would say they are about once a year in my Mexico City Studio. I do have a youtube channel with a few tips and techniques, and hopefully will have a skillshare class in the near future ;)
